Sniper Elite: Resistance is selling again — but players attach one condition

A price cut pulled a wave of buyers back to Rebellion's WWII sniper sim. Their reviews come with an asterisk the size of the discount.

In brief

Sniper Elite: Resistance is a stealth-sniping shooter set in occupied France, complete with the series' wince-inducing X-ray kill-cam that follows the bullet into bone.

The recurring verdict: it plays like a smaller expansion to the last game, not a fresh one. Worth it on a deep discount, a hard pass at full price.

What this game is

Sniper Elite: Resistance is a third-person stealth-and-sniping game from Rebellion, set in Nazi-occupied France during World War II. You stalk large, open levels, pick off targets from distance, and improvise when plans fall apart. The series' calling card is its X-ray kill-cam, a slow-motion shot that follows your bullet into the body and shows, in anatomical detail, exactly what it shatters. Alongside the campaign there are co-op modes and a signature Invasion mode that drops a human-controlled sniper into your game to hunt you down.

What happened

The reason it is back in the spotlight is simple: a price cut. A discount sent a wave of new buyers in, and they have been leaving reviews on the way through. That is the whole event. Not new content, not a big update, just a number on the store page dropping low enough to tip the undecided. The interesting part is what those buyers keep saying once they're in, because nearly every recommendation arrives with a condition attached.

Player voices

The dominant take is that this is less a sequel than a slightly smaller rerun of the last game. One buyer summed up the value math:

"It's like Sniper Elite 5.5 … Absolutely not worth full price. But with a heavy discount, yes I do recommend it." — a player with about 36 hours

The fun, when it lands, is in the series' nastier multiplayer streak. Another leaned all the way into it:

"Worst story ever … BUT, you get to use HE rounds on invading players … So, for half price, yes." — a player with about 106 hours

Verdict

⚠️ Wishlist it and wait for the discount. At full price the consensus is harsh: it reuses Sniper Elite 5's systems with smaller maps and weaker storytelling, and it's hard to justify. On a steep sale it flips into an easy yes. The core sandbox of patient, gruesome sniping is intact, and the invasion mind-games are still a thrill. Existing fans should grab it cheap; newcomers are better off starting with Sniper Elite 5.
