Vercel Labs compiled a TypeScript port of the TypeScript compiler into a native binary
tsc-ts is the Go-based TypeScript 7.0.2 compiler rewritten in TypeScript, then compiled to native code with scriptc. It is labeled an experiment.
Each compiler stage was compared against tsgo on TypeScript's own test corpus of roughly 12,500 files, and the project reports matching results on the tested cases. No benchmark results are published, only a script to produce them.
A commenter who tested it against the Go build confirmed it is faster than the Go version, but warned the code targets the subset of TypeScript that scriptc supports, so the result may be tuned to the toolchain.
What it is
tsc-ts, under Apache-2.0 from Vercel Labs, ports TypeScript-Go 7.0.2 into TypeScript and builds native executables with scriptc. Install with npm install -D tsc-ts and run npx tsc-ts -p tsconfig.json. Building from source needs Node.js 24+, Go 1.26 and scriptc 0.3.5 exactly.
What is proven and what is not
The scanner, parser, binder, module resolution, emit and type checker match tsgo on the tested corpus. Gaps: CPU and heap profiling are unsupported, and completions needing auto-imports return an error. The README ships a bench script but publishes no results.
The thread supplied the missing benchmark, with caveats
One commenter ran it and confirmed the speed claim, then qualified it:
"I confirmed, it's faster than the Go version, which is very surprising, and super impressive!" — pizlonator, a commenter who says they tested it against the Go build
His caveats: it is "written in the subscript of TypeScript that scriptc supports", and "I would bet they landed optimizations to scriptc specifically to get this result."
On why anyone would build this, the maintainer of a rival TypeScript-to-native compiler (tsonic.org) offered an answer:
"You can't use the mainline tsc v6 compiler because it's slow and runs Javascript… And you can't use v7 because it's written in golang." — jeswin, who says they maintain tsonic.org, a TypeScript-to-native compiler
So this is a self-hosting test for scriptc as much as a faster compiler. Expect the speedup to be real on tsc-ts's own code paths; run bench on your monorepo to see if it survives your project.
