CSS-Tricks is independent again, and the thread asked who still reads CSS tutorials

DigitalOcean bought the site from founder Chris Coyier in 2022. On October 26 it went to Geoff Graham, who has worked on it for 12 years.

In brief

Graham plans ads, paid memberships with a Discord, a beginner HTML/CSS course and a relaunched newsletter, with one or two articles most weeks.

A commenter with 20 years of CSS experience said the site is now as relevant as PostScript Tricks.

Geoff Graham announced he now owns the site, which Chris Coyier started in 2007 and sold to DigitalOcean in 2022. The post does not say why DigitalOcean is letting it go. His plan: bring back display ads, sponsored posts and newsletter sponsorships, sell memberships, ship a beginner course, relaunch the newsletter on November 10 and reopen guest submissions.

The business-model objection

"I tried both ads and courses, in my case neither were very successful. The most success I had was in offering to do the things the site tells you how to do in exchange for money." — a site owner who runs a similar tutorial project

"in 2026 "CSS Tricks" seems about as relevant as "PostScript Tricks"" — a developer who spent 20 years getting good at CSS

Graham's revenue list leans on the two models the first commenter says did not work for him. The one that did, selling the work itself, is the one not on the list.
