A group called HCCF wants .self to give each person a free subdomain, policed against squatting and reselling, as an on-ramp to digital sovereignty. The site errored out under load — fittingly, a self-hosting manifesto that couldn't survive its own front page.
Readers asked the questions the proposal didn't: how do you fund a TLD with no registration fees, how do you enforce one-per-person without an identity nightmare, and why does this need a new TLD at all?
