Discord will publish public-channel messages to search engines from mid-December (discord.com)

Admins can pick which channels participate or switch them all off, in Server Settings under Web Presence, and members get a single toggle in User Settings under Data and Privacy. Public channels are on by default, except member settings default to off in the EU, UK, Canada, Brazil, Australia and South Korea.

The thread worried less about Google than about who can be linked back.

A Discord breach leaked 68,000 Australian IDs weeks before the age-verification law hit (expression.fire.org)

A Discord breach exposed government ID images, names and emails for 68,000 Australians just weeks before the country's under-16 social-media ban took effect in December 2025. Then Australia's own research found roughly seven in ten kids still on social media months later.

On the thread, a Google cryptographer argued the privacy loss is avoidable: anonymous credentials can prove you're over 18 without the verifier ever learning who you are, or correlating your visits. The counter from another corner: identifying yourself online is long overdue.
