Davit: a 17 MB native Mac container UI, and every commit says 'Co-Authored-By: Claude' (davit.app)

The app talks to Apple's container daemon directly over XPC, the same path the CLI uses, and handles images, logs, live stats and in-container file browsing from one window.

The thread's flip wasn't about the tool. One tester wrote that seeing Claude in a project's GitHub contributors is now a signal the app will be good: native-feeling, tiny, no Electron.

Not just a headline — the discussion unpacked

The top HN threads: facts from the discussions, both sides, insider voices. Email, Telegram, or RSS.

Podman 6.0 rebuilt its networking stack. The thread was really about whether it can replace Compose (blog.podman.io)

The pro-Podman case in the thread was security and ergonomics: no 'container root equals host root' games, no daemon, no holes punched in your firewall. One CTO switched after Docker Desktop ballooned in memory — 'literally as easy as installing it and pointing it at our docker-compose.yml.'

The honest counterweight was portability. Podman's file-per-unit Quadlet model can't match Compose's single, readable, shareable file for team development — and getting current versions on Ubuntu without stale distro repos still, one reader argued, keeps losing Podman to Docker.

Bash can open a TCP socket and fake an HTTP request without curl (mareksuppa.com)

The trick is three lines: open file descriptor 3 on /dev/tcp, printf a raw GET with CRLF headers, then cat the descriptor back. The Connection: close header is load-bearing — drop it and cat waits forever.

But the loudest reply in the thread was a correction: Bash does not speak HTTP. It opens a socket and you speak HTTP, badly. The toy client doesn't parse responses and breaks on redirects, chunking, or TLS.
