Mac.apk runs Android apps as native Mac processes, with no emulator or VM (github.com)

Mac.apk implements the Android app environment directly on Apple Silicon macOS. Apps appear in the Dock with their own windows and draw through the GPU. It is alpha: 10 of 66 tested apps only partly work and 4 don't run.

The README warns that saved data lives inside each app's bundle, so trashing the app erases it. A commenter says the newest release moves it to Application Support.

Claude turns an abandoned Windows printer into a macOS project (twitter.com)

The author linked the resulting [hp-laser-1008a-macos](https://github.com/Kuberwastaken/hp-laser-1008a-macos) project after describing the machine as a useful case study.

Other developers replied with similar work on Xbox adapters, e-paper screens, and industrial printers: specs, captured traffic, and prior art become enough material for a model to help bridge an unsupported platform.

He asked if you'd restarted your Mac this week. Cue an uptime culture war (taonaw.com)

A micro.blog writer described his weekly ritual of rebooting his Mac on Saturday mornings, force-quitting the unsaved-work warning for the small thrill of it. He isn't worried about losing anything: work syncs to OneDrive, files sync via Syncthing.

The 220-comment thread split by tribe. Linux and BSD users bragged about months of uptime and treated a forced reboot as a sign something is broken. A fleet admin countered from the trenches: it's pulling teeth to get 10,000 Windows users to accept one automated reboot a month.

A Show HN keeps your Mac awake while AI agents work. The thread: that's a built-in command and a 15k-line reinvention (github.com)

Adrafinil, a Show HN named after a modafinil derivative, keeps a lid-closed Mac awake only while AI agents are working, then sleeps. Useful — until the thread points at the wheel it reinvents.

macOS ships 'caffeinate -dimsu.' Amphetamine has done conditional triggers for years. One commenter compressed the whole thing to a three-line shell loop; another asked why a sleep toggle needs 15,000 lines of code; a third noted the coding agent itself just shipped the feature.

macOS 27 deletes the menu icons macOS 26 added. Gruber calls it the best news from WWDC (daringfireball.net)

Apple's revised guidelines now say use menu icons "sparingly and with purpose," and "don't display an icon if you can't find one that clearly represents the menu item." Several users had stayed on older macOS specifically to dodge the change.

The dissent: one engineer says it's not the design team that produces this, it's a structural failure to listen to customers — and the cleaner fix was never icons-or-no-icons, but letting users choose.
